South Austin Jug Band PhotographI’ve had the new South Austin Jug Band Album Its A Dark And Weary World stuck in my iTunes queue for weeks now. I just can’t seem to stop listening to this album every day.

South Austing Jug Band is one of my favorite bluegrass/newgrass acts on the scene and they are just starting to get the attention and exposure they deserve. They were deemed the best bluegrass act at the 2005 Austin Music Awards during the SXSW festival. I discovered these guys several years back when they won the band competition at Telluride Bluegrass Festival. I’ve been a huge fan ever since.

Their sophomore release A Dark And Weary World (released on the Blue Corn Music label) is a collection of bluegrass/newgrass/acoustic/country songs (all composed by members of the band) that are true to South Austin Jug Band’s roots. The album was produced by Lloyd Maines who has produced such acts as Robert Earl Keen and the Dixie Chicks. Everything about these songs just hooks me from the break neck bluegrass pickin to the twin fiddles to the hilarious and heart felt lyrics. A Dark And Weary World is a real treat for any bluegrass fan! You can pick up your own copy of A Dark And Weary World over at cdbaby.com.

Karma (Will Dupuy)
Karma you let my luck run out,
Bartender, poor me a double stout,
I’m stuck here in this joint how long too long.
Waitress tell me something new, I needed a couple
I had a few more left to right you can’t go wrong
When no means no and yes means maybe,
And all of my friends are so damn lazy.
Wandering a wailin’, driftin’a salin’ the day,
No need for class or even style,
Honey you’d be off by a country mile.
And old EP he moved far away…
Bobby play that blues guitar,
T. Etie drives a rental car,
Moose speaks German that really ain’t German at all.
Mattress got two many toes,
How I met these cats, I’ll never know
And the mouth of the south,
he always makes his share of false calls.
