Pearl Jam Life Wasted billboardPearl Jam has decided to release the video for Life Wasted off their new self titled album under a Creative Commons license whereby anyone can legally copy, share and distribute the video. From now until May 24, you can whatch and download the video from Google and after that it will be available for sale. This is great news and is a step forward in the war brought on by the web between the music industry and the consumer. I’m getting fed up with seeing consumers being treated like criminals. I’m against piracy of music, but I believe that its the music industry’s responsibility to come up with a better business model for marketing music. This move signals a rethinking at least on Pearl Jam’s part of how to make money and apease people who like to file share. Read more about it here…
On a side note, I used to be a fan of Pearl Jam when they first came out. Then I thought that the albums started to become a little dull/boring. I’m happy to see that Pearl Jam’s period of mediocrity has come to an end. Their new self titled album really redeems these guys at least in my mind. The album has alot of really punchy, catchy tunes that really pay homage to some of their idles from the sixties and seventies including Led Zepplin, The Who and the Beatles.
