This is one of the most epic performances from one of the most epic music collaborations of the last decade. I remember seeing their Austin City Limits performance and being completely blown away by what seemed like such an unlikely collaboration. By the end of the episode it made perfect sense. The Flaming Lips complement the work that Beck did on Sea Change so well and conversely its great to hear Beck’s interpretation of Flaming Lips tunes such as Do You Realize.
In this historical performance from New York’s famed Beacon Theatre they play mostly Sea Change material as well as some older Beck classics from Odelay, Melow Gold and (highly underrated) Midnight Vultures. I’ve read rumors about some nasty falling out between Beck and Wayne Coyne so I doubt we’ll ever get experience this union again but at least we’ll always have this amazing recording to enjoy.
